Suzanne Obituary

On Friday, July 14, 2023, Suzanne Lynch, lost her battle with cancer. Her last day with us was Bastille Day, a holiday celebrated across France with fireworks, parades, singing, and dancing. It was an appropriate day of departure for Suzanne, a Francophile at heart, who lived in Paris for almost a decade following graduation from Brown University. While living overseas she worked in journalism and in public relations for institutions including The International Herald Tribune and Cerruti 1881. Suzanne eventually returned to the U.S. where she settled in New York City, working as an interpreter. She shifted between projects at the United Nations and the New York family court system throughout various boroughs offering her French-speaking skills. She was a talented translator combining both her expertise and empathy for each circumstance she encountered.

Suzanne's greatest joy was being a mother. She loved to travel with her daughter Dylan and explore new places together. The pictures from their travels radiate with the love and joy of their forever bond. Suzanne loved the outdoors, whether the beach, the mountains or walking on a wooded path. She had a great sense of adventure, including worldwide travels as well as having enthusiastically completed a noted 17k' elevation trail in her youth. Suzanne had a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor. She loved literature and writing, and one of her favorite places was snuggled alongside Dylan listening to Dylan read to her.

Suzanne is survived by her daughter Dylan, her mother Marguerite, her elder sister Denise, and her sister Michele Lynch Matzinger, her brother-in-law Bill and nephews and niece Jackson, Townsend and Sawyer Matzinger. Her father John Lynch pre-deceased her in 2019. A celebration of life will be held in the fall in New York City, with details to be determined.

So saddened to hear of Suzanne’s passing! I was privileged to become friends with her and work with her as a performer (on top of everything else everyone else has said she was a wonderful actor). She was a complete joy to know and was a genuine, good soul. I feel lucky to have known her for the time I did. My thoughts are with her daughter, who sadly I didn’t get to meet.

I am Suzanne’s simultaneous interpreting partner, and have been searching for Suzanne for two months, until today I found this site and discovered the terrible news of her death. My distress is boundless. During the past four years we became fast friends performing countless remote evening jobs together for the NYC Housing Authority and Geneva WorldWide interpreting agency. During that time I heard so many adorable Dylan stories that I feel like her invisible auht. PLEASE can someone put me in touch with Suzanne’s relatives, so I can find out how Dylan is doing and who has taken over her care? I would also like to give her free French lessons, if desired, in honor of Suzanne’s memory. You can contact me via Facebook or LinkedIn or via the email address I provided the administrator of this site. I am so terribly, terribly sorry.

We became fast friends during that time, and share so many adoring Dylan stories that I feel like an invisible aunt.

Happy time, Together…

August 5, 2023

There are no words for the sadness that consumes us with the loss of Suzanne. As I sit and try to put my thoughts and feelings into written form, I have to pause. There is an indescribable feeling that cannot be put into words. As the youngest cousin in the group, I always looked up to my older cousins. Suzanne would always be so chic casual cool and carefree. I would stand outside her door and listen to her sing when I was at our family thanksgivings on Weed Street. She had such a Beautiful
Voice. I was always in awe of her adventure to France, living in Paris and speaking French fluently! Although we will never understand or have answers as to why she had to leave this world so young, she has left us all with our memories. Whether they are big, small, silly, or serious, we have those. Dylan, she had no greater love than what she had for you ! She was so proud of you and will always be your guiding light as you navigate this world with family and friends lifting you up. Suzanne will forever be her colorful and artistic self shining down on us with a proud smile and lots of love.

Though the photo may be faded, the light Suzy brought everywhere and to everyone never will.

Suzy was a friend of our daughter, Sarah. I still picture them on Brown graduation day in 1990, marching down the hill together, bonded by amazing friendship that started when they met at 18. She was a gift to the life of all those who met her.

My deepest condolences to Dylan and the family. Dylan was enrolled in our ballet program for a number of years starting in 2018 at Discovery on the UWS and she was supposed to come to gymnastics camp for a week this summer. When she didn’t come for camp and I didn’t hear from Suzanne, I found it odd and I worried. I came across this obituary. I was so saddened to read this news. Suzanne was such a light and always wanted the best for Dylan. She was so communicative with me and always kept me up to date on her and Dylan. I even heard from Suzanne in May that Dylan made it into SAB at NYC Ballet. Suzanne was always immensely grateful and appreciative for Dylan being in our ballet program. She was a special parent in the community of parents I meet everyday. I would love to be in touch with someone from the family to see how Dylan is doing and if there is anything I can do. Please reach out to me at katie.discovery@gmail.com or at 212-749-8717. I am sending love, support and prayers to the family and especially to Dylan.

We are deeply saddened by Suzanne’s passing away. We met Suzanne and Dylan 2 years ago, and Suzanne’s kind and generous spirit made it easy to become friends quickly. Her creativity in turning every get together into a special occasion for the children, her positive outlook even in difficult situations, her strength and courage will continue to inspire us. Our sincere condolences to Dylan and Suzanne’s family.

I learned of Suzanne’s passing nearly a year after it happened. I am simply devastated by this loss. My daughter and Dillie were close friends throughout preschool and in the couple of years that followed, before we lost contact with them. My husband and I both formed a friendship with Suzanne and have incredibly fond memories of our time with her. She was not only a deeply loving and devoted mother, but also an exceptionally talented individual with what seemed like an endless array of skills. Between the countless playdates, celebrating birthdays and special occasions, and the meaningful, long talks we had, I feel lucky to have gotten to know her so well and will forever cherish those memories. All of my love to sweet Dylan, who I hope to see soon.
